Switchfoot’s owner-operator surf guide Jason Quinn with more than 25+ years of experience in the region will ensure your surf charter adventure is safe, enjoyable, and second to none, having you in the right place at the right time.
Jason has spent his entire working life at sea. Australian Merchant Navy, Sydney Harbor ferries, and various other charter boats. He is an experienced captain with Master Class 4 and MED 2 certificates. Switchfoot’s Indonesian crew are all fully certified under Indonesian maritime law with more than 50 years of service between them on surf charter boats in Sumatra.
Mentawai Island Surf Spots
The Mentawai Islands are a chain of about seventy islands and islets off the western coast of Sumatra in Indonesia. The power of the southern Indian Ocean storms are turned by the prevailing sea trades towards these amazing islands and amplified. The result is that the surf is remarkably consistent and of unsurpassed quality. During the southern hemisphere winter (late April to early November) the Indian Ocean is an over-active groundswell machine.
